| Q's （久のスピーチ） Omedetou! R&J! Jodi stayed with us 14 years ago as a homestay student. Jodi learned my mind and Japanese faster than I did hers, so my English didn't improve. I want to tell you a episode but my English is still poor, so, I will let my daughter talk about it. |

| As some of you may already know, Jodi stayed with my family when she
was studying in Japan. Ever since then, she has been like a big sister to me. I believe that living in Japan was a quite a change for her , but we also learned lots of things from living with her. |
| 何人かの皆さんはジョディが日本で勉強していた時 私達家族と住んでいたことをご存知かと思います。 それ以来彼女は私のお姉さんのような存在でした。 彼女にとっても日本での生活はとても変化のあるものだったと思いますが 私達も彼女からたくさんのことを学びました。 |
| One of the things we still rememeber happened on the very first day she arrived. That night, my mom cooked us a meal as usual. At the dinner table, my dad made a comment and it was something like "it would be better if you put a little bit more soy sauce. . . " Having heard that comment, Jodi got so angry and told my dad "If you complain, why don't you make your own food?" And there was a moment of silence. It was quite a culture shock to us because nobody ever told a (Japanese ) dad anything like that before. |
| 彼女が我が家に来たその日の事をまだ覚えています、 その夜 いつものように母が夕飯を作りました。 その食卓で 父が 「これは味が薄い、 醤油を足した方は良い！」 と云う様なことを言いました、 それを聞いたジョディは 父に 「文句を言うなら 自分で作れば！」 と言ったのです、 一瞬 し〜 ん と なり、 私達はすごい カルチャーショックでした。 日本では こうゆうことは起こりえなかったからです。 |
| From that day, my dad started to change. He started to cook, not everyday, but better than before. |
| でも これを機に 父は毎晩ではありませんが 料理をするようになりました。 |
| Anyway, I am sure that J & R will be an ideal couple, sharing love,
sharing the joy of life, and sharing the household chores . . . "Naniha tomoare, gokekkonn omedetou!!" "Congratulations and best wishes on your wedding day!!" |
